With addiction, we are so scared of failure. FAILURE CAN BE FRUITFUL.
A quick look through scripture proves my point. How many bible characters experienced failure before becoming mighty men or women of God? Did you notice Jesus cooked breakfast for Peter after he had betrayed him and ran back to what was familiar?
With addiction, we are so scared of failure. As parents, it is something we want to vehemently deny and reject. I know, I’ve been there. But, then I have to look at my own life.
Have you ever really acquired skills in an area in which you did not experience some failure?
I am a Registered Dietitian and Diabetes Specialist, and I believe what enables me to be successful is my OWN struggle. I've never had a client that didn't fall away from their plan a few times as they were improving. Have many of us non-addicts have consumed too much wine with dinner and woke with a headache (or should we be so bold as to call it as it is…. A hangover?)
You may be shouting “Foul!” ….ESPECIALLY if you are a parent, and I understand, I really do….but am I so far off?
My point is…. It is important to have programs in place to help people who struggle in an area. To not just say, " Don’t fail!" but equip them to recover if they do make a poor decision. I have advised weight patients, “forgive a lapse to prevent a relapse” and that is good advice.
Judgment and condemnation never heal. I have learned that personally and paid a very costly price as a parent.
Jesus is there in the pit… even in the actual mistake itself.
As a Believer, you are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. Repeat that over and over …. Even in the midst of bad behavior. Speak this out loud….shout it. Run back to a God that pursues, loves, forgives, empowers. He is for you and not against you.
Elsewhere Ministries ID-IQ Experience recognizes failure is a part of long-term success. If one of our residents is going to fall… we prefer it to be while there is a support group and counselors surrounding them to help. We address the trigger, the response, and plan for the next trial. Aftercare is essential to long-term recovery. God is there is the failure and if you look to Him, He will lift you out of that failure and put your feet back on steady ground.
If you are struggling to live life with purpose, passion, and joy….free from bondage to addiction, contact us at ElsewhereMinistries.org
Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. James 1:2-4
And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; Romans 5:3-4
